Experience

Walter de Beauvesier Watson possesses over 40 years of experience in the Lottery Industry, of which about 35 years at De Lotto and its successor Nederlandse Loterij, where he was responsible for the operations of lotteries and sports betting. As the president of the works council he led the employees’ negotiations in the merger between De Lotto and Staatsloterij.

On an international stage he was the Chairman of the European Lotteries (EL) Sport Working Group. In this role he represented EL in many sport-related panels and served as the EL representative in the EU Expert Group “Economic Dimension of Sport”. Additionally, Walter was the Chairman of the Working Committee of the Global Lotteries Monitoring System (GLMS), now known as United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS) where he developed the business plan and the organizational structure.

Following the merger of Nederlandse Loterij, Walter fulfilled his longtime dream of establishing a consultancy. Over the years he assisted boards of directors in developing new strategic initiatives, participated in setting up tender processes for new lottery systems and the evaluation of the bids including the implementation of it these systems. He also led departmental reorganizations, coached management staff like a Chief Operating Officer and conducted various benchmark studies related to marketing, IT and legal related issues.

Walter has been sought by several lotteries and governmental organizations for his insights and support on liberalization of gambling markets.

In the area of fraud prevention, Walter actively combats sports manipulation and illegal gambling. He serves as a member of the Integrity Committee of the Royal Dutch Football Association and participates in awareness raising programs including speeches, drafting policy proposals and organizing seminars.

Walter is also a well-regarded speaker at conferences and seminars organized by the World Lottery Association, European Lotteries, the African Lottery Association and other relevant events.
